Happy Thanksgiving!

I will be taking a few days to spend with my family. I hope that everyone ejoys a happy, safe and relaxing holiday. I really love this time of the year even if it is the busiest for musicians. It is good to remind ourselves of the many blessings that we have been given over the last year. Usually I take a few minutes to reflect and look at the many gifts that God has chosen to send my way. Not with the intention of congratulating myself on being a good person, but to really ask myself how I can share these blessings and gifts with others. Unless we are willing to empty our buckets God cannot continue to fill them with good things.

Peace and blessings to you and yours. May God grant us the grace to be truly grateful for our country, family and friends.

New Chant Group in Palm Beach County

Thanks to the ambition and dedication of Michael O'Connor, we will soon be having a Gregorian Schola performing in the Palm Beach Diocese. The group's first goal will be to sing Vespers for Epiphany after the first of the year. More details to come as things develop

St. Cecilia Sing! 2007 Excellent Evening

Wow! I cannot say, "Thank you!" enough to all the dedicated choir members who worked so hard to prepare for a lovely evening of prayer and music. I am truly in awe of your dedication and talent.

I recieved so many warm and positive comments from those who attended. Next year we will try to boost our attendance a bit more. I have always long believed that the Holy Spirit will be present where two or three are gathered in His name. I left feeling very tired but elated.

I also wanted to thank especially Doris for her accompainment and Jeanne for coming to build up the NPM Palm Beach Chapter. Please check out the national NPM site: www.npm.org or our local chapter http://www.npmpalmbeach.org to find out more about supporting the art of Liturgical Music.

As I said at the end of our Evening Prayer . . . "Who says, 'Catholics can't sing?'"

Saint Cecilia Sing

On Friday, November 16, 2007 our parish will be hosting our 3rd annual St. Cecilia Sing! This year I have decided to make it more participatory. I have structured the evening based upon the format for Evening Prayer except that I have added many more congregational songs. I hope that we can raise the roof singing hymns of praise to our God.

Hope to see you there!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my new blog. I am a Cathoic musician working full time in a South Florida parish. Currently, I'm writing music for use in Catholic worship as well as personal reflection and meditation. I will be using this blog to keep people updated about new happenings and events in my ministry. Also, I will be posting my thoughts and reflections on happenings in the Catholic music world.

As of last week Nick Alexander and Joel Stein among others have started a blog to document the Top-Ten Catholic songs for various generes, styles and occastions. Take a minute to go over and check out http://www.topcatholicsongs.com/. These lists will be available for all to view and comment upon. It will be a fun way to promote excellence in Catholic music as well as a forum to post your thoughts and comments.
